Alicia Evans - Playing for Keeps: The Ethics of Empathy in Medicine (HYBRID)
How compassion, listening, and laughter bring humanity back to medicine

Join empathy educator, award-winning artist and actor Alicia Evans for an illuminating and heartfelt talk about her national work training physicians in compassionate communication. What began with a chance Craigslist job posting have led to years of travel across the U.S.—from Delaware to Houston to rural Minnesota—helping doctors navigate life’s most difficult conversations with patients and families. Through humor and real-life stories, Alicia reveals what happens when empathy becomes not just a skill, but an ethical practice. From reluctant learners to unforgettable roleplays, she explores how acting, listening, and laughter remind us that humanity is always at the heart of healing.

Alicia Evans is an empathy educator, award-winning artist, and actor who trains physicians nationwide in compassionate communication through the VitalTalk program.  She has trained doctors at Memorial Sloan Kettering, NYU Langone, Kaiser Permanente and NY Presbyterian.
