Does Climate Change Mean That We Have to Change?

Global warming is progressing without any sign of slowdown despite a thirty year international effort, from Kyoto to Paris, to slow it down and prevent the worst consequences. Dr. Roser will discuss the possible reasons for this failure and the possibility that we might have to change on a more fundamental level to start addressing this global emergency.

Dr. Thomas Roser grew up in Switzerland and obtained a PhD in Nuclear Physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. He came to the US in 1984 to work with the particle accelerators at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This was also when he met his wife, Georgine Dominique. Dr. Roser retired from Brookhaven five years ago, which has allowed him to focus on his longtime interest in energy issues and climate change. He recently taught a course on Climate Change at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Stony Brook University. He and Georgine have been members of the Ethical Humanist Society for about 30 years.
