How to Be a Good Neighbor

Words from a Long Island activist and immigrant.

Sonia Arora is a writer, teacher, community activist and mom. She is one of the founders of Port Together, a rapid response, mutual aid network based in Port Washington made up of immigrants and citizens alike. We offer solidarity and support to our immigrant neighbors through community watch, legal services, education, mental health support, accompaniment, advocacy, and more. Confronting decades of anti-immigrant laws and policies, we strive to create a community where everyone is valued, respected, and loved, and where everyone belongs. She is also the Social Justice Coordinator at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock and guides and facilitates the programming of various issues like mental health crisis, racial justice, LGBTQ education and support.
