Homo Sapiens—the Wise Humans???
What Has Happened to Us and Can Darwin Help?
30% of Americans still believe the 2020 Election was stolen. 25% of Americans believe the January 6th attack on the Capitol was orchestrated by the F.B.I. Donald Trump is on his way to being the Republican candidate for President. On October 8th, some people celebrated the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th. On October 9th, Israel cut off water, food, electricity and fuel to 2 million Palestinian men, women, and children. The list of examples of stunning irrationality and moral indecency seems to grow on a daily basis. Yet our species is designated as the wise ones, the super cooperators. How can all of this be reconciled? A Darwinian perspective on the human mind and on our moral psychology offers insight.
