Building an Economy Worthy of Our Shared Humanity
Join Katy Lasell, organizer with the New Economy Project, for an in-depth discussion about the Equity Agenda Coalition’s vision for a Solidarity Economy in New York State.
We’ll explore what a Solidarity Economy means — an economy that centers community wealth-building, racial and economic justice, cooperative ownership, and working-class power and agency over the decisions that shape our lives. You’ll learn about key policies and campaign priorities the Equity Agenda is advancing across the state, including strategies for transitioning toward economic systems that work for people and communities rather than corporate profit.
Come ready to hear ways to get involved, share your ideas, and help build powerful campaigns to transform our economy from the ground up.
Katy Lasell joined the New Economy Project in February 2025, where she coordinates state policy campaigns focused on housing and economic justice. She brings more than a decade of experience as an organizer and educator, working with diverse constituencies including tenants, homeowners, formerly incarcerated people, and college students.
Katy holds a Master’s degree in Macro Social Work (Community Organizing) with a policy focus from Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work. She is a rent-stabilized tenant living in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. In her free time, Katy enjoys dancing salsa, writing science fiction, and making zines.
