Hope, Hype, and Hard Realities in the Changing Landscape of Dementia Care
The outlook for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia is getting brighter. Decades of research has led to improved understanding the biology, progression and in some cases, treatment of a condition that so far, is without a cure.
But that progress comes at a price—false hope, failed drug trials, and expensive therapies with sometimes devastating side effects. There’s also the price that families pay. Many suffer steep mental, physical and economic tolls, even if outside support is available.
Liz Seegert will discuss the latest innovations in dementia care, the hope, the hype, and how the federal budget cuts will impact millions of families.
