Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) became legal in New York State on August 5, 2026. It is now available to terminally ill New Yorkers with less than six months to live. The law expands end-of-life options for terminally ill residents and affirms their right to make informed decisions to reduce suffering at end of life. There are strict guidelines within the law before the assistance can be offered by a physician. This address will explore the ethical issues involved in MAID juxtaposed against the concept of death with dignity.
