Uncomfortable Lessons About History: A Docent’s Journey

Learning history can be great fun. History can also make us uncomfortable. Share in Alan Cohen’s experience as a tour guide and docent, a journey which was often disturbing. If we are to become more ethical, more humane, we need the courage to be disturbed by history.

Alan Cohen was a psychologist and college professor. In retirement he pursued his love of history becoming a docent at two museums in Manhattan and later one in Ithaca. He was also a licensed New York City tour guide. Alan has always been intrigued by the true stories of people and events that seem like fiction.
